Class Plan
If I were to give this lesson to a class of students my strategy for teaching this would be :
- To show them the video without mentioning what the purpose of what it will be for
- Then after the video has played I would ask them what ideas that as to what the mouse sounded like?
- I would then play them the video again but ask them this time about what sound effects might happen during the video
- Once the video has finished I would ask if they came up with any unusual sounds
- Once they have thought through I would play the video once more and ask them this time to think of the music and what it could possibly be
- Once this is over I would ask them to get into small groups and if I have spare instruments they could use these to come up with a composition of what they think the sound effect and music could be
- Next I would give them sometime alone for the groups but I would keep the video on a loop just so they know and remember what happens in each part of the cartoon
- After about 10 or 15 minutes I would ask them to come back into the classroom space and share with everyone what they came up with.
- After each group presents I would ask that group and the class what they thought they did differently, or what was unique about the group, etc
- After everyone has presented I would show them the video again but this time with the sound so they can see how the composition was different from theirs or perhaps even similar in some ways
- After they have seen the video I would then explain the concept of what composition or arrangements are and go from there in my class
